August 19, 2011, Lake Guntersville Fishing Reports – There is no doubt the “Dog Days of Summer” are making it tough out there.  This past week, I had several trips that where typical of this time of year.  Fish are scattered and unpredictable for the most part.  You can find a few fish on the shallower grass early in the mornings, but the best fish are still being found in 8-18 FOW on ledges/drops or road beds with muscle shells on them.  Most fish where in the 2-3.5 pound range with a few 4-6 pound fish in the mix and numbers being caught are holding, with a daily average of 15-30 fish.  There are several schools of bass roaming the lake and which can drastically increase your numbers, if you locate one of them.  Water temps have dropped a few degrees to 82-87 and even that is depending on the time of day.  Our better fish came on Tightline Football Head Jig’s (Black/Blue and Guntersville Special) and t-rigged Brush Hogs, Sammy’s, Frogs/Rats and plastics. There is a top water bite both early morning and late afternoon on Assassinator buzz baits, www.assassinatorbaits.com.  The frog/rat bite has started and will only improve from here on out, as water temp’s drop and the fish start to feed up for the winter! Find the areas that have duck weed and/or lily pads that are thicker or with milfoil close by or mixed in with the pads.  I have a few days available this month.  I'm already booking days for the September and October, make your reservations now for some great late summer/early fall action on Guntersville and Nickajack. August 7, 2011, Woods Reservoir Lake, Capital Hill, TN. – Upon arriving this morning to meet clients for a day on the lake.  I was pleasantly surprised and completely impressed with the work that the TWRA, Franklin County, and the U.S. Air Force have done at the Morris Ferry Ramp.  They have completely refurbished what once was a total disaster area into a day use area that everyone can enjoy.  The project included a new two lane ramp, three fishing piers, (all handicap accessible) and a very nice walking bridge across the Morris Ferry Cove, along with two portable restrooms and removed 95% of all the old decaying docks and out building.  Now for the fishing, air temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s by noon with Water temps are steady at 84 to 88 degrees by late afternoon.  We found fish on the shallower grass early in the mornings, but the best fish are being found in 3-10 FOW on the old river channel and banks with willow grass. Most fish where in the 1-2 pound range with a total of 26 fish for the day.   Our better fish came on Tightline Football Head Jig’s (Black/Blue and Guntersville Special) and white spinner baits from Assassinator Baits.  www.assassinatorbaits.com .   If your looking for a great place to get away for with kids or just out to enjoy area and wet a line, I highly encourage you to checkout Woods Reservoir at Morris Ferry Ramp. 1 & 2 June 2011 - Lake Guntersville –Yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Ronnie Garrison of
www.fishing.about.com , from Griffin Ga.  We caught several fish mostly on Jigs in 8-10 FOW.   Water temps are steady at low to mid 80’s.  Today, I was joined by John and Johnny from Memphis TN.  28 May 2011 - Lake Guntersville –I was joined today by Gus and his son Zach from the Harrison Bay area of Chattanooga TN, for a day on Lake Guntersville.  We started the morning out with a heavy fog at the launch ramp, so I ideal out to a main channel point and found the fog had lifted on the main channel.  First, stop we found no less than eight boats fishing in the area.  So, we took an outside ledge.  After about 30 minutes none of the boat had caught anything and started leaving.  We moved in on the sweet spot and Zach started wacking them right off the bat and continued for most of the morning.  As the sun broke through we moved to the mattresses and caught them some more!  Water temps are steady at 76 to 81 degrees.  Our better fish came on Tightline Football Head Jig’s (Guntersville Special), t-rigged brush hogs, shaky heads and Assassinator Spinnerbaits and plastics.  Schools of fish starting to stage in a early summer pattern on road beds and ledges, but don’t give up on the shallow top water, morning or late evening bite!   Most fish are still in the 1-3 pound range with a couple 4-5 pound fish in the mix.  I can’t think of a better way to start the Memorial Day Weekend than today’s trip.  Ya’ll be safe out there over this holiday weekend.  I have a few days available this month.   I'm already booking days for the June and July, make your reservations now for some great late spring/early summer time action on Guntersville and Nickajack. Sorry no pictures this reports, some where in my hurries I lost my camera, however here is some screen shot from my Lowrance HDS of what we fished.   I have a few of days available for March and I’m already booking days for the April and May, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

Water temps started out at 54.7 and by the days end we found some 56.1.  If you wanted to classify this day either good or ok, that would depend on which one of you talked too.  Rob (dad) would say he had great spring day, he caught 9 fish most of which went between 2-3.5  Reed and I on the other hand might not agree with that as we only caught one fish to Rob’s catch.  With a post front, blue bird skies, north wind and an air temp at started at 38 degrees.  We started out looking for a jerk bait and rattle trap bite. Rob’s started catching while Reed and I fished!  The fish we caught today came from 2-6 FOW, all on jerk baits. From Bill above: orginally posted on Chattanooga Fishing Forum
http://www.chattanoogafishingforum.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=52237&posts=3&start=1 Thanks Jake for a great trip under rough conditions. You know when you have whitecaps in a slough about 80 feet wide it is tough. At times I was fatigued due to trying to keep my balance while the boat rocked. I have been in calmer waters in the Gulf of Mexico 50 miles out - LOL! Jake is really equipped for just about anything for you guys wanting to test him out. He has a boat load of quality equipment and is really a hard working fisherman for fishermen! He has the new rods with the microguides and I have never used one before but I will say they are impressive on casting distance. One time with a big swimbait I almost dumped the reel with my cast!

24 Feb 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report – I was joined today by Bill and Dave from Portage, Indiana. This morning we started with 57.5 and ended the day with 59.1 degrees.  We fished the middle portion of the lake, using rattle traps, jerk baits, jigs, swim’ in senkos and swim baits.  We managed to find some good fish working rattle traps swim baits and swim’ in senkos in 1 to 7 FOW.  In all the guys boated 17-20 fish including one extremely heavy female tipping the scales (two different scales) at 10 pounds it was a great spring day.  There are some god fish shallow, they seem to be cursing a little more these days, moving up in short burst, feeding on what they can find and than returning back to little deeper water. How ever our best fish came from 3-5 FOW.   With forecasted temps near 60 and sunshine for the most part, the water temp’s should hold over the week.  Please folks, on any given weekend you can expect to see several hundred boats from now till next November, treat people like you would expect to be treated and watch where you run.  Today we witnessed what could have been a very bad situation, we idling out a small channel passing another boat, when some over zealous fisherman run on full pad between our boats basically threading a needle.  There is NO reason in this world for operating a boat in that fashion (I could have reached out and touched his boat).  I know the three elderly folks in the other boat did not care for it either, they got wet.    I have a few of days available for March and I’m already booking days for the April and May, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

19 Feb 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report –I was joined today by Brent from Birmingham, AL.  This morning we started with 49.5 and ended the day with 56.1 degrees.  We fished the lower end, using rattle traps, jerk baits, jigs, swim’ in senkos and swim baits.   We managed to find some good fish working swim baits and swim’ in senkos in 1 to 4 FOW.  All in all it was a good day, our best was between 4-4.5 pounds which came from the Alreds area and most were in the 2-3 pound range. Watch for them shallow, they seem to be cursing a little more these days, moving up in short burst, feeding on what they can find and than returning back to little deeper water.  With forecasted temps near 65 and sunshine for the most part, the water temp’s should improve over the coming days.  Please folks, on any given weekend you can expect to see several hundred boats from now till next November, treat people like you would expect to be treated and watch where you run.  I noticed several boats yesterday and today that I still wonder how they ever made it across a flat or section of water without hitting a rock pile or stump, I guess its just plain luck they did not.  I have a couple of days available for February, Late March and I’m already booking days for the April and May, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

18 Feb 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report –I was joined today by two great fellows from West Tennessee and Arkansas.  After several days of great weather and warm temperatures finally the water temperatures are coming up.  This morning we started with 49.5 and ended the day with 55.8 degrees.  We fished the mid lake, using rattle traps, jerk baits, jigs and swim baits.  We had a tough time finding a rattle bait bite and switched swim baits on the main river channel to find some fish.  We managed to find working swim baits slow in 2 to 6 FOW.  All in all it was a good day with good numbers of fish being boated, (20 plus) most went 2-3.5 pound range and by far the best day this past week.  It appears that we are starting to move towards an exceptional spring bite, if the current weather holds.   With forecasted temps near 65 and sunshine for the most part, the water temp’s should improve over the coming days. I have a couple of days available for February, Late March and I’m already booking days for the April and May, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

16 Feb 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report –Several days of great weather and warm temperatures haves and brought the water temperatures up.  This morning we start with 48.5 and ended the day with 51.5 degrees.  We fished the mid lake, using rattle traps, jerk baits, jig and swim baits.  The pattern if that is what you call it is still a slow presentation of the lure.     We managed to find some nice fish working traps and jerk baits slow in 2 to 5 FOW.   We should start moving towards an exceptional spring bite any day now.  With forecasted temps near 70 and sunshine for the most part, the water should hold around 49-50 overnight and improve from there. Fish will start feeding more aggressively in preparation of the spawn.  Please use caution when fishing early spring the while the air temp’s may reach 65-70 the water is still in the 48-55 range and can be deadly for the angler who falls in the water and don’t forget sunscreen.   I have days available for February, Late March and I’m already booking days for the April and May, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

12 Feb 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report – With several early trips in the books all ready this year, it appears we are finally going to see a “REAL” break in the weather here in the Mid South.  As for the what has been going on all my recent trips have been to the mid to lower portion of the lake where we found water temperatures starting at 42 and climbed to 46.5 by end of most days, including today.  We managed to find some nice fish working traps and jerk baits slow in 4 to 7 FOW.   If the forecast holds over the week look for a change in the pattern.  We should start moving towards an exceptional spring bite.  As the water warms to the 48-54 degree range, the fish will start feeding in preparation of the spawn; this should start in Mid March when the water hit 58-62 degrees. Fish the first emerging weeds and grasses with rattle traps, jerk baits, large spinner baits, critter baits, and jigs.  Slow roll a spinner bait over structure and flip/pitch the heaviest cover you can find. This is the time of the year when a Carolina rigged lizard can be deadly when targeting those giant Guntersville/Nickajack Hog’s in 4-12 FOW.  Please use caution when fishing early spring the while the air temp’s may reach 65-70 the water is still in the 48-55 range and can be deadly for the angler who falls in the water.  I have days available for February, March is getting slim and I’m already booking days for the April and May, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

6 Feb 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report – Another day of great weather today and I hope everyone made it out to the lake for awhile, before the game. I was joined by two gent’s, in town for an upcoming tournament.  We fished mid to lower portion of the lake where we found water temperatures starting at 42 and climbed to 46.5 by end of the day.  We manage to find some nice fish working traps and jerk baits slow in 4 to 7 FOW.  I have days available for February and I’m already booking days for the March and April, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

30 & 31 Jan 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report – We saw some great weather this past weekend and I hope everyone made it out to the lake for awhile.  I was joined Sunday by Cooper, Mike and Grandpa for a little mid winter fishing.  We started out in Mudd Creek where we found water temperatures starting at 44 and climbed to 48.5 by lunch time.  Around noon we pulled out and drove down to Goose Pond picking up lunch on the way.  The day belonged to the boys whom managed to catch several nice bass and crappie, all on rattle traps.  Monday morning I was joined by Wayne, who was in town for his first visit to the mighty G’ville wanting to learn the lake for an upcoming tournament.  We spent most of time traveling the lake showing him were to run and not to run.  We did manage to wet a line with couple of misses and no results on traps.  Shortly afternoon Wayne departed and being Jake, I returned to the lake for a little exploring myself.  I visited some of my old haunts between BB Comer and Goose Pond, where I ended the day with a total of three hits and two nice bass in the 2 to 3 pound range working a brush hog over road beds and old creek channels.  We observed schools shad in the back waters on Monday, but nothing seemed to be chasing them.  Overall, it seems that the fish are still hung up in a winter pattern and you really need to slow your presentation down.  I talked to the guys from the Tim’s Ford Bass Club and learned that it took only 9 pounds to win and 3 pounds to get a check during their tournament on Guntersville Sunday. Very soon now the bigger fish should start moving up and feeding for the spawn.   I have days available for February and I’m already booking days for the March and April, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

20 Jan 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report – Mike and I hit the lower-mid part of the lake today trying to get a read on what the fish are doing since the snow and extreme cold spell. We found water temps from 39.5 to the low 40’s with good color. Air temps “Cold and Colder” weatherman lied, I don’t believe it ever got over 44 degrees and we had a strong wind out of the southwest.   I must say it was not a great day but we did manage some fish and they had some size. The lake appears to be recovering from some extreme cold as we observed schools of dead shad all over the back waters. There is still a little ice near the shores in some spots and plenty of dead shad.  If you are going to fish in these colder parts of winter, please wear your life vest at all times and don’t forget to drain your lower units of all water.  We fished several baits, rattle baits, Spinner Baits, Jerk Baits and Tight-Line jigs.  Watch for fishing to start improving over the next three weeks after the snow goes away and if the weather stabilizes.  I have days available for February and I’m already booking days for the March and April, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

8 Jan 2011 - Lake Guntersville Fishing Report – I was joined Saturday by Jack from the Gadsden AL area. We fished from Goose Pond to Waterfront area of the lake targeting old weed lines.   Water temp’s have come up to 44-45 degrees.  Water clarity ranges from extremely muddy to lightly stained, the clearest water we found was in South Sauty.   We found the fish in 2-7 FOW around last falls grass lines using rattle traps and jerk baits.  It’s a typical winter pattern we had to slow down your presentation and make sure we hit the grass.  The fish we caught were good healthy fish, with a couple over 4 pounds, one in the 5.5 pound range. The lake water level is was back to normal pool.  There are still several logs, grass mats with garbage floating not only on the main channel but the back channels as well.  Watch for fishing to start improving over the next three weeks after the snow goes away and if the weather stabilizes.  I have days available for late January and I’m already booking days for the spring, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

We fished from Goose Pond to Seibold.   Water temp’s are 42-45 degrees.  Water clarity ranges from extremely muddy to lightly stained, the clearest water we found was in South Sauty.   We found the fish in 3-6 FOW around last falls grass lines using rattle traps and jerk baits.  It’s a typical winter pattern as they are bunched up in small groups and as always in the winter it’s critical to slow down your presentation.  The fish we caught were good healthy fish, but nothing giant. If you are going to venture out over the next week or so, please use caution when running.  The lake water level is high.  We saw several logs, grass mats with garbage floating not only on the main channel but the back channels as well.  Watch for fishing to start improving over the next three weeks if the weather stabilizes.  I have days available for late January and I’m already booking days for the spring, make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville. “Let’s go fish’ in”

He likes to fish docks so; I put us on some docks and Reed picks up my 7’6” flipping stick with a ½ oz jig.  With VERY little instruction, he went to work and was flipp’in like he was born with a rod in his hand!  Reed caught the biggest fish of the day, an 8-10 pound drum and the second biggest “Toad” class fish (5 plus pound bucket head) only to be out done by Dad’s 6 pound even “Toad” which he caught not ten minutes after Reed’s.  I challenge you to take a kid fishing…the pictures say it all!   Make your reservations for a trip soon, we still have dates available in October...Smallmouth fishing should start picking up in mid November on Tim’s Fords. Water temps are holding between 72-75 degrees, clarity was a couple of feet. To put the below pictures in perspective for you…Len is all of 6’3” and 270 plus.  Make your reservations for a trip soon we have few dates available for last two weeks of October and have already started booking into 1st week of November...Smallmouth fishing should start picking up in mid November on Tims Fords. A couple of my previous clients called tonight to let me know they came in the top 5 in a tournament out of Spring Creek.  Said they fished the Browns Creek area that I had shown them had their limit early on top water.  5 Oct 2010 - Lake Guntersville – Coty from Cumberland KY, joined me today on Gunterville.    We started at BB Comer working our way down to Goose Pond area, we found fish in 6-8 FOW using flukes, Sammy’s and Buzz baits.  The frog bite was not happening…at least for us.  It was chilly start this morning at 39 degrees; however most of the fish we caught was prior to noon. Before noon we had 9 solid fish 2 to 3.5 pound range and several short fish after lunch we only managed half dozen or so hits and 3 fish.  The bite quickly shut down with the arrival of 10-15 mph winds from the north/northeast. Water color ranges from extremely stained to clear depending on what area of the lake your fishing.  Water temp’s ranged from 65 to 69 degrees today as we departed at 4:00pm…Guntersville is primed for a great fall bite to start any day now.  Shad have staged on the front side of the pockets, points some have moved inside pockets for warmer water, we did find them in some select main channel mats as well.   Make your reservations for a trip soon we have few dates available for last two weeks of October and have already started booking into 1st week of November...."Let's go fish'in”

29 Sept – 3 Oct 2010 - Lake Guntersville – This report covers the last five days on Lake Guntersville.   Water temp’s have come down and stabilized in the mid 70’s. With the change in weather pattern that we saw over the past week, it will not be long before we see a robust top water bite.  Thursday we started at BB Comer working our way down to Goose Pond area, we found fish in 6-8 FOW using flukes, spinner baits and of course frogs.  The frog bite is still not what it should be…we had 6 blow ups all day and only hooked up one.  Friday, I fished with a couple great guy’s from East Tennessee pre-fishing for a tournament; we put in a Allred’s and fished the lower end.  We found our best fish in 3-6 FOW around scattered grass.  We fought high winds all weekend for the most part, which on prevented us from fishing the main channel for the most part.  When we where able to get out there we found fish on the back side of the channel grass in 8-12 FOW right where we had them last week.  Each day produced 15-25 fish that would have been a good limit of 11-18 pounds.  To sum it the past week up, I’d classify it as “tough” our most dependable bite remains a fluke worked in 4-8 foot of water in scattered grass…while almost all our better fish came from the back side of the channel mats and hard structure using jigs/t-rigged Mag-II worms.  We did see some what of an improvement on top water buzz baits Thursday; however it quickly shut down with the arrival of strange winds from the north/northwest. Water color ranges from extremely stained to clear depending on what area of the lake your fishing.  It actually appeared that the lake was turning over on Friday and Saturday with some water being almost black in color.  Guntersville is primed for a great fall bite to start any day now.  The shad have started to stage on the front side of the pockets, points and some have moved inside pockets for warmer water.   Make your reservations for a trip soon we have few dates available for last two weeks of October and have already started booking into 1st week of November...."Let's go fish'in

25-26 September 2010 - Lake Guntersville – Spent the weekend with Larry and Dan from Kentucky, couple of great guys and anglers.  We started Saturday morning on the very upper end where we found several nice largemouths mixed in with some nice spots. Most of our bites where very light, our lure would just get heavy.  We used shaky heads, flukes and sammy’s for the most part.  We made our way down to the Mudd Creek area for the afternoon and fish the grass, where we used frogs, flukes and spinner baits to bag our better fish…water temp on Saturday was held right around 80 degrees, mainly clear and we had some current in the morning.  Sunday, we put in at BB Comer and worked our way down to Goose Pond area, we found fish in 6-8 FOW using flukes, spinner baits and of course frogs.  Larry just had to use what he called a “Wild Cat Blue” frog, which produced our best frog action of the weekend.  Water temps fell and kept falling during the day do to the weather…cloudy and rain for the most part.  Water temps ranged from 77.5 to 80 on the high end. Our most dependable bite came on a fluke worked in 4-8 foot of water in scattered grass…make your reservations for a trip soon we still have dates available in October and have started booking into 1st of November...."Let's go fish'in”

24 September 2010 - Lake Guntersville –Fished the upper end of Lake Guntersville today, with Larry P. from Albony Ga.  We put 18 plus fish in the boat mostly Largemouth…had a few spots in the mix.  We both missed some really nice fish today, we caught fish on Sammy’s, flukes, and spinner baits…best producer was a Sammy!  Water temps was 79 to 80.9 all day with most clear skies, and clear water.  I’m no the water this weekend with some folks out of Kentucky…we’re going to start tomorrow morning at Nickajack Dam and end up Sunday down lake around Water front…Looks like we have a good forecast of cooler temps and a little rain which should bring the area lakes back to life and trigger the fall feeding...make your reservations for a trip soon as we are already booking into October...."Let's go fish'in”

12 -21 September 2010 - Lake Guntersville - Its been along week here…fishing on has been “Fair” at best.  While we caught fish on every trip this past week it has been slow with the exception of the morning bite on the very upper end of G’ville… The early morning top water bite has produced the best fish mostly on Sammy’s and flukes rigged weightless.   The rest of the day it has mainly been one or two fish here and there with some good fish coming from the Mudd Creek area and outside Roseberry Creek.   The frog bite still has not busted out as in years past.  Look for it to improve with the changing weather forecasted for next week. That is if it happens!.  I’m still finding that most fish are on the main channel grass in the evening in the scattered grass in 3-7 FOW, using Buzz Baits and Frogs.  We found a couple of schools that would come up for 15-20 minutes and than take a break for 30 or so minutes and repeat. These fish for the most part are not the giants, but can provide for some fun… Surface water temps would start out around 79 and climb to 84 each day...the best action came from Scattered grass along the main channel and the midday belonged to deeper ledges working 10" worms on a T-rig.  A white frog or buzz bait produced our best fish each trip followed by a fluke worked slowly in deep water or fast through the scattered grass in 3-7 FOW.   If the forecast holds for next week, the cooler temps and a little rain should bring the area lakes back to life and trigger the fall feeding...make your reservations for a trip soon as we are already booking into October....let's go Fish'in

13-14September 2010 – Nickajack and Tims Ford – I made it out a couple times to pre fish and check both Tims and Nickajack Lakes, they are still slow.  Tim’s is producing a few good fish in 20+ FOW and temps remain in the low 80’s, best bet to catch fish on Tims Ford is night fishing or early mornings, using spinner baits, crankbaits and soft plastics.  Nickajack is in the same shape as Guntersville….water temps in the low to mid 80’s daily are holding the fish in 20-25 FOW.  There is some top water action but not as in years past.  This should improve over the next two weeks.

10 Sept 2010 - Lake Guntersville - Spent the day with some good people...Stanley Smith, Mike and Gil Johnson down on Guntersville.   We started on the upper end of the lake early...We boated 15-20 good fish, plus what Stanley calls a lake record (it was 6 inches and tried to each a 4 inch sammy...photo below) that was one hungery little spot,  our best five would have been around 18-20 pounds....we pulled out and trailered over to Mud Creek to meet up with some friends and Mike Gerry of Fish Lake Guntersville Guide Service...this was a little tougher of a bite...they really wanteed a rat/frog bite.  It was slow from about 10:30 till 2:30pm we managed a meger eight fish and nothing over 3 pounds....Gil Johnson tagged the best at just over 3 pounds....These fish have started to move to a fall pattern and fishing will only get better from here on out. Water temp early was 79 and by 3pm it was 84.8, most fish came on top water.  Give me a call and let's go Fish'in

4-6 September 2010 - Lake Guntersville - First I hope all enjoyed their Labor Day Weekend...mine was full with four trips.  Here is a rundown, Saturday I picked Peter up (in town from Ireland) and we put in on the lower end of the lake.  We started out on the outside edges of the grass on secondary creek channels with Buzz Baits and Frogs.  As the day went on we moved out to the ledges which turned out to be our best action using T-rigged worms and Jigs.  We finished the afternoon up with a little swim bait action on secondary points with scattered grass. After taking Peter back to Huntsville, I met up with Harold and his better half from East TN, (repeat customer) at Goode Pond.  We stayed on the main channel grass all evening and found fish in the scattered grass in 3-7 FOW, using Buzz Baits and Frogs.  We found a couple of schools that would come up for 15-20 minutes and than take a break for 30 or so minutes and repeat.  Sunday afternoon, I was joined by fellow guide and friend John to take a group of college buddies out for a little late afternoon action on the lower end of the lake.  We found several fish in Browns Creek fishing 1-4 foot of water along the bank grass.  Again, the action mainly on frogs and big worms worked in the outer edges.  Monday morning, I met up with Jaryn (who's better half arranged this trip as a birthday gift at the last minute Sunday evening) We put in at Goose Pond  and fished from Jones Creek to Mink Creek paying special attention to little pockets with scattered grass along the heavier mats.  Jaryn was supprised when we came across a really nice fish that just could not get his targeting down...the fish (in the 5-6 pound class) would come completely out of the water about a foot away each time and smash his frog by landing on it sideways...as if it was protecting fry.   To sum it all up, we enjoyed lower air temps which started each day in the low 50's....Surface water temps would start out around 79 and climb to 84 each day...the best action came from Scattered grass along the main channel and the midday belonged to deeper ledges working 10" worms on a T-rig.  A white frog or buzz bait produced our best fish each trip followed by a 5.5 swim bait worked slowly through the scattered grass in 3-7 FOW.   As we move into September the action is only goin gto get better, fish are will be moving into the creeks and putting on the winter feed bags...make your reservations for a trip soon as we are already booking into October...."Let's go fish'in"

27 Aug 2010 - Tims Ford Lake - Was able to get in a couple hours with Mike just before night fall...we managed a total of fish and missed a couple others.  T-rig plastics and 1/2oz Jigs worked.   Water temp was 87-89.  We fished the upper end and in the Elk River.   All our fish came from 3-7 foot of water.

24 Aug 2010 - Tims Ford Lake - Today was a split day between two local lakes with John from Brentwood who wanted to get some fishing in before starting his new job next week.  We started on Tims Ford at daylight.  Caught several nice smallmouths on football head jigs and T-rig soft plastics.  Water temp started out at 83.6 degrees and rouse to 87 by noon in the mid lake area.  We fished steep rock backs...we found in order to get bit you needed some type of wood in the mix.   Water clarity ranges from 1-2 feet in the Elk River area to 3-5 feet down lake...

24 Aug 2010 - Woods Res - After taking a break for lunch we loaded up and headed for Woods Reservoir....the first things we noticed was the water was high (about 6-10 inches) and stained throughout the lake.  With a strong northerly wind I took John to the willow grass beds where on the first cast he hooked up with a 2 pound Largemouth.  We continued to cover water and caught several fish on (John's favorite) T-rigged plastic's, jigs, and spinner baits.  Water temp upon our launch was 85.6 degrees and climbed to 88.9 at 6pm when we departed the lake.  Our best fish came from hard cover (docks/laydowns) with grass around them.  The deeper bite just did not produce today.

22 Aug 2010 - Lake Guntersville - Fished this morning with Rusty from Chattanooga, his better half arranged this trip for his birthday!   We started the morning with a great spinnerbait bite in the back of S. Sauty.  We caught several nice fish on a Pro Assassinator Clacker Spinnerbait, white in color along the outside weed line in 4-6 foot of water.  The water temp had cooled to 85 degrees from the heavy strom the night before.  The morning started with a thick cloud cover, but the tail end of the front moved past and gave us blue bird skies around 9 O'clock.  The bite Purdy much was gone once this happened...moved out to the main channel mats, only had two blow ups on frogs...we are booking already for September and earlier October...give me a call or drop me an email and lets go fish'in

21 Aug 2010 - Tims Ford - Spent the morning on Tims Ford...Water temp is 88.2 and fairly clear all over.  Fish where active early this morning we caught 15 nice keeper size fish on Black Shad Culprit 10" worms and Flukes.  2 of the 15 where 18-19 inches smallmouth.  Fish are holding in 15-20 foot of water around secondary points.  Saw a nice school of stripers up in front of Devils step...

16 Aug 2010 - Lake Guntersville - Spent the day with a client from the Cookeville TN area who called Sunday night,  bite was slow, but  we did manage to captialized on a few good fish...this was a perfect example of "Dog Days of Summer"  We started out in North Sauty and ended up fishing ledges in front of Sebo...each location we stop at produced a couple of fish.  All in all we end the day with our five best coming in around 14 pounds with on really nice 6.54 Greg stuck on a SWL Buzz Bait...Frog bite was not happening...trick worms worked slow on the ledges produced the best numbers.  Look for the frog bite to improve over the next two months as we get into the fall weather patterns...Start planning your trip to the mighty G'ville now, I have days available in September and we are booking into October already!!!!  "Let's go Fish'in"

9-12 Aug 2010 - Lake Guntersville - My clients for all three days where prefishing for the Snag Proof open and ask me not to post a report until Sunday understandably...We covered Guntersville from Mink Creek to just above Mud Creek...our best frog bite (simply because thats all we fished) was above Roseberry.  Thats not saying we wacked them hard...but each day would have produce a good stringer of 16 to 18 pounds.  With as slow as it has been that is very good.  Today is a day off and will be back at it Tuesday...we are booking trips for October already, the bite should be picking up with the return of more normal temp's....give me a call and let's go fish'in...

7 & 8 Aug 2010 - Lake Guntersville - We had a couple of very busy days...the bite has slowed down a little over the past couple of days mainly due to extreme heat and  rising water levels...the winter drawdown has started in the Tennessee river pools above Guntersville.  We watched the water level raise yesterday what appeared to be 4-8 inches in the matter of 4 hours.  We did catch some quality fish both days in the 4 to 6 pound class....The primary bite is early morning top water and late afternoon topwater. In between, go to Flippin soft plastics around grass lines and docks (any thing that breaks up the current)  As for the top water bite...slow them frogs down and work every little opening.  Water temp still remains in the upper 80's and low 90's depending on what part of the lake your on...as the fish get use to the change in water/enviroment later this week bite will pick up.  Word of caution...if you are going to be on the water over the next 4 or 5 days make sure you have plenty of water and keep a towel soaked in cool water to place around your neck...call or email me and Let's go Fish'in...

6 Aug 2010- Lake Guntersville - Mike Gerry and I got out on the water today to search for some new locations and compare tactics...we had a great time exchanging ideas and catching fish...our best five would have went well over 20-23 pounds...we caught fish on Frogs/Rats, Spinnerbaits, Jigs, Buzz Baits, and Worms...We found fish in just about every depth from 2 foot in the pockets to 15 feet on the river channel....We are booking trips for Late Aug and September/October already plan early and let's go fish'in

1 Aug 2010- Lake Guntersville - I teamed up with fellow guide Capt. Shay Doming again today and spent the morning with a great family from the New Orleans area...we caught several quality fish to include Mom's big fish caught on a Snag Proof Frog, which went just over 6 pounds...we had fish schooling in 8-15 foot of water in the back channels...spinner baits and shad raps proved to be the most productive...a ProAssassinator Clacker in white pattern put the most constant/best quality fish in the boats today....we are booking for late August and September already give me a call and "Let's go Fishin"

31 July 2010- Lake Guntersville - We had the pleasure of spending the morning with two father & son teams on Lake Guntersville this today...fish are still schooling in good numbers.  We caught fish in 8-15 feet of water on TightLine Jigs football head jigs w/Grande Bass Mega Craw Trailers, Flukes, Shaky Head rigged split tail worms (green pumpkin), the guys missed several fish on big worms (the fish where just holding on to the tail) The Frog bite was slow at best early this morning...here a good tip to remember when fishing "Frogs/Rats" once a fish takes it say the phrase "One, Two set the hook" and set the hook as you finish the phrase...we are booking trips from Mid August and September already....give us a call and "Let's go fish'in"

29 July 2010- Lake Guntersville spent the afternoon with an ol'friend Shay Doming catching schooling fish in the mid lake area.  We found several schools in 8-15 foot of water feeding on shad at the surface.  We caught several nice keeper fish using fluke and sinko.  Our better fish pictured below came on C-rig and Tightline Football jig.   Keep in mind when fish a jig of any kind this one phrase "When in doubt...set the hook"!!! After we finished playing with the schooling fish...Shay wanted to get some frog action in...we caught 15-20 really nice fish in the 3-4 pound class on the main channel mats using a white snag proof frog/rat.  Drop me a line and Let's go Fishin
1-27 July 2010

Lake Guntersville has been producing some really nice fish in the 3-6 pound class for most of the month.  The jig bite has been producing on the main channel ledges close to grass, we found several schools of bass in the mouths of creeks fishing Buzzbaits early in the morning. The last two weeks it has been warming up and the bite has started to slow during the midday...good news for those "Frog/Rat" tossers the water level has dropped about six inches this past week give us a few nice grass mats to work along with the Lilly pads.  We have found several nice fish pulled up under these areas all day long...if you can stand the sun and heat.

Tims Ford is extremely tough during the day with the early morning bite be fair...the best results have been late evening in to the mid night hour with crankbait and big worms.
